KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the second time in as many years, Loyola University Maryland forward Erik Etherly was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District I Second Team honors.

Etherly, who last year became the first Loyola player to earn All-District honors from the NABC since Mike Powell earned the honors in 1981-1982, also earned All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference First Team laurels for the second year in a row.

Iona's Lamont Jones, Niagara's Juan'ya Green, Canisius' Billy Baron, Siena's O.D. Anoskie and Stony Brook's Tommy Brenton were named to the District I First Team. Boston University's D.J. Irving, Fairfield's Derek Needham, Niagara's Antoine Mason and Stony Brook's Jameel Warney joined Etherly on the Second Team.

Entering tonight's game in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament Quarterfinals at East Carolina, Etherly is the team's second-leading scorer, averaging 16.0 points per game. He also has led the team in rebounding with 6.5 per game and has contributed 48 assists, 43 steals and 28 blocked shots.

A graduate student who earned his bachelor's degree in communications in December, Etherly scored his 1,000th career point in a January game at Fairfield. Over the final seven games of the regular-season, he had five games with 22 or more points, including three in a row with 23-plus.

On Sunday afternoon in in the CIT Second Round against Kent State, Etherly posted his third double-double of the season with 27 points and 11 rebounds. He went 17-of-19 from the free-throw line, and his 17 makes are tied for second all-time at Loyola in the single-game category.

Prior to the game at East Carolina, Etherly has scored 1,238 career points, good for 21st all-time at Loyola in just three seasons with the Greyhounds. His 662 career rebounds are 10th all-time, and his rebounding average (currently 7.2) will rank in the top-10 upon the conclusion of his career.
