Jones Named Lids Team Sports Patriot League Player Of The Week
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland men’s basketball player Jarred Jones was named the Lids Team Sports Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Greyhounds to a pair of conference wins last week.
Jones, a junior post player, averaged 19 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.0 assists in wins at College of the Holy Cross and at home versus Lafayette College.
He opened the week with a 22-point, 8-rebound outing at Holy Cross, making 10 of the 14 shots he attempted in the game. He also had four steals, one off his career-high, and two assists in the 71-54 victory.
The Havre de Grace, Maryland, native then posted 16 points, nine rebounds, two steals and two assists on Saturday night in the win over the Leopards.
In the two games, Jones shot 66.7 percent (14-of-21) from the field and made 83.3 percent (10-of-12) free throws.
This season, Jones leads the Greyhounds in scoring (13.9) and rebounding (8.0). He is also tops on the team in blocked shots (24) and second in steals (23). The player of the week honor is the first of Jones’ career and the first for a Loyola player since Dylon Cormier earned the award twice during the 2013-2014 season.
Loyola continues Patriot League action tonight when it hosts Colgate University at 6 o’clock in Reitz Arena.
