Walker Earns Second Patriot League Weekly Award After Pair Of Wins
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland senior guard Andre Walker was named the Patriot League The Rock Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, earning the award for the second time in three weeks, after he led the Greyhounds to a pair of come-from-behind victories.
Walker averaged 26.0 points and 9.0 rebounds as Loyola won on Wednesday night at Lehigh University and Saturday afternoon versus the U.S. Military Academy. The award is Walker's second of the season with both coming in the last three weeks. He also earned the honor on Monday, January 15.
Through 10 Patriot League games this season, Walker leads the League in scoring with 23 points per game. Overall, he is averaging 17.5 points per game in 2017-2018.
Against Lehigh, Walker tallied his second game of the season with 30 or more points, dropping 32 points as Loyola rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to down the Mountain Hawks. He also had his first collegiate double-double, posting a career-high 12 rebounds.
Walker tallied 26 of his points after halftime to lead the Greyhounds to a 91-88 double-overtime win. He had four steals in the game, as well.
On Saturday, he helped Loyola erase a nine-point halftime deficit to down Army West Point, 79-68. He scored 20 points and had a team-high six rebounds against the Black Knights in the victory.
The weekly award is the fifth of Walker's career.
Walker and the Greyhounds continue Patriot League action on Wednesday, January 31 when they travel to Boston University for a 7 p.m. game against the Terriers.
