McGill Rallies, Men's Hoops Holds On For Fourth Win Of Tour
MONTREAL, Quebec - Loyola University Maryland men's basketball faced its toughest challenge to date on its 2014 Canadian Tour Tuesday night, when it took on McGill University, winner of the last two Canadian Interuniversity Sports RESQ Conference championships.
Loyola trailed by a pair, 16-14, at the end of the first quarter only to built a 35-24 halftime lead that it would extend to 17, 43-26, less than three minutes into the second half.
The Redmen, however, cut the deficit to six, 50-44, on a Vincent Dufort 3-pointer with less than two seconds left in the third quarter, and McGill reclaimed the lead, 53-52, with 6:34 remaining.
Dufort scored the last of five-straight by McGill, and the Redmen led, 58-57, with less than four minutes on the clock.
Andre Walker cut down the right side and pulled up for a 12-foot jumper with 3:01 showing, pushing the Greyhounds in front for good. On their next possession, Laster rattled a 3-pointer off the rim and backboard, getting it to fall for a four-point advantage.
Noah Daoust put in a basket for the Redmen with 1:15 left, but Laster hit a free throw and then converted a dunk after a Walker steal and assist to provide the Greyhounds with a 65-60 victory.
Laster finished with a game-high 25 points, 15 coming in the second half. Walker added 13, his only two after halftime coming on the pull-up jumper to give Loyola the lead.
Franz Rassman scored eight points and had 10 rebounds, while Laster pulled down seven boards. Walker also had four steals for the Greyhounds.
Dufort led McGill with 15 points.
Earlier in the day, Loyola toured the 1976 Olympic Village and Olympic Stadium, former home of Major League Baseball's Montreal Expos.
The Greyhounds will close their trip on Wednesday with an evening game at Concordia University.
