Buffalo, N.Y. - The Loyola men's basketball team fell behind early and could never recover, falling to Manhattan in first-round action at the 2005 MAAC Tournament. The Greyhounds were held scoreless for the first 7:36 and dropped an 88-67 decision to Jaspers at the HSBC Arena on Friday night.

Manhattan jumped out to a big lead with its famed full-court press. The Jaspers scored the game's first 13 points before Sean Corrigan cracked the scorebook with a strong lay-up at 12:24. Unfortunately for the Greyhounds, Corrigan was Loyola's first-half offense, scoring four of team's five first-half field goals.

Corrigan scored Loyola's first 10 points with two three-pointers goals and a pair of two-point field goals. His second three-pointer made the score 28-10 with 6:52 remaining in the period. The Jaspers kept the pressure and kept making their shots, shooting 50 percent from the field to lead 45-17 at the half.

Junior Linton Hinds sparked a second-half Greyhound run with persistence on the boards. Hinds, who cut the deficit to29 points with his third attempt at a lay-up in traffic, trimmed the lead to 55-31 minutes later, finishing off a conventional three-point play at the free-throw line.

Freshman Freddie Stanback, who was held scoreless in the first half, scored 11 second-half points while Hinds finished with a team-high 16 points. Corrigan, who fouled out with 11:55 remaining in regulation, ended the game with 15 points.

Loyola ends the season with a 6-22 overall record while Manhattan advances to the second round with a 15-13 overall mark. Head Coach Jimmy Patsos improved Loyola's win total by five games his first season, giving the Greyhounds a No. 9 seed in this year's tournament.
