NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Erik Etherly and Robert Olson both scored 23 points, and Anthony Winbush finished with a career-best 20, but it was not enough to counteract the game-high 35 put up by Iona College's Lamont Jones, as the Gaels defeated Loyola University Maryland, 90-86, on Friday night in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.

Iona (16-13 overall, 10-7 MAAC) shot 76-percent from the field in the second half, making 19-of-25 shots after the break, and Jones made all seven of his attempts in the final 20 minutes.

Olson tied the game at 36-36 9.8 seconds before the half with a three from the left side off an R.J. Williams assist, sending the teams to the locker room.

Loyola (20-10, 11-6) took its first lead of the game when Winbush scored in the paint 15 seconds into the second half, and the Greyhounds led for much of the period's first six minutes. Ranz Rassman scored on back-to-back possession for Loyola to push the Greyhounds' advantage to four, 44-40, at 17:37, but it is as large of a lead as they would take.

An Etherly free throw at 14:34 pushed Loyola back up one, but Iona tallied nine of the next 12 points, and a David Laury III layup at 10:31 made the Gaels' lead seven, 68-51.

An Olson three, one of his five, at 8:49 drew the Greyhounds back within two, 60-58. Winbush converted again in the paint - he was 10-of-12 from the field - at 7:38 to make it a 62-61 Iona advantage, but that was as close as Loyola could get.

Joneas was 11-of-15 from the field to score his 35 points, while Iona post players Taaj Ridley and Laury finished with 15 and 14, respectively.

Loyola shot 54.7-percent from the field as Olson, Etherly and Winbush combined to make 27-of-43 shots. The rest of the team, however, finished with just 20 points and was 8-of-21.

It marked the first time in Head Coach Jimmy Patsos' nine years on the Loyola bench that three players have scored 20 or more in the same game. The last time the Greyhounds accomplished the feat was February 16, 2002, when Donovan Thomas scored 27, B.J. Davis finished with 21 and Lucious Jordan had 20 in an 88-78 win at Saint Peter's.

Etherly led all players with 10 rebounds, recording his second double-double of the season and the 15th of his Loyola career.

Loyola's 23 assists, led by a career-high tying seven from Williams, are the most by a Greyhounds team since they put up 24 on February 14, 2007, against Rider University. In addition to Williams' total, Dylon Cormier added six and Etherly had five.

The Greyhounds wrap up the 2012-2013 regular-season on Sunday, March 3, with a 12 noon game against Manhattan College at Reitz Arena.
