Baltimore, Md. - Jamal Barney finished with 30 points, but Canisius finished the game on a 19-6 run, erasing an 11 point deficit to defeat Loyola 69-67 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action on Monday evening.

After falling behind 42-34 in the first, the Greyhounds hustled in the first three minutes of the second, putting up seven points. Loyola took the lead at 43-42, on a Jawaan Wright three-point play at 16:40.

The Loyola defense forced a 2-of-17 performance from the Griffins in the next 10 minutes, allowing the Greyhounds to go on a 15-6 run. Jamal Barney chipped in 11 of those points to put the 'Hounds up eleven, 61-50 with just over five minutes left in the game.

Canisius then answered with six points from Frank Turner to pull within four, 65-61. Loyola continued to bring in the fouls, and the Griffins regained the lead with a minute to go when Julius Coles made a twisting lay-up and was fouled, making the ensuing free throw for a three point play, and a 65-64 Canisius lead.

Barney missed a long jumper and Tomas Vazquez-Simmons made one of two free-throws to put Canisius up three.

Tony Lewis made a lay-up for Loyola, cutting the deficit to one, but Turner hit a pair of free-throws to seal the victory. Canisius was 7 for 7 to finish the game.

Both Brian Rudolph and Jawaan Wright finished with eight points for the Greyhounds.

Turner ended up with 23 points for Canisius and foward Greg Logins had 19 points, from first-half play only.

 

 

Loyola heads to Drexel for the ESPNU Bracketbuster game on Saturday to start at 5 p.m.
