BALTIMORE - Robert Olson became the 32nd player in Loyola University Maryland men's basketball history to score 1,000 points in a career, hitting a jumper with 17:31 to play, and the Greyhounds defeated visiting Saint Peter's University, 74-58, on Sunday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.

Olson finished with 17 and was one of three Greyhounds (11-5 overall, 3-1 MAAC) to score that much or more in the win. Erik Etherly hit the 20-point plateau for the second-consecutive game, finishing with a game-high 24 points to go with a career-high tying five blocks, and Dylon Cormier added 18.

"It's a testament to my teammates who have helped me get good shots," Olson said following the game. "The coaches have stuck with me through bad games, and I'm just happy to have the honor of getting 1,000 points in a win."

Olson scored eight in the first half and, needing 10 to reach 1,000 at the start of the game, scored off an Anthony Winbush assist on a fast-break early in the second stanza.

Winbush finished with a game-high four assists, and he led the team with eight rebounds.

Saint Peter's (6-8, 1-3) never led in the game, but the Peacocks pulled within two, 17-15, on a Markese Tucker layup with 10:27 on the first-half clock.

After the Greyhounds had turnovers on back-to-back possession, Cormier converted a layup at 8:32, sparking a 13-0 Loyola run. He then came up with a steal on the defensive end and converted it into a fast-break layup, getting fouled in the process and made the free throw.

Winbush capped the run with two from the charity strike to push the Greyhounds' lead to 32-15 before the Peacocks scored four in a row.

Two Cormier free throws with 10:48 to play made it a 57-38 Loyola lead, its largest of the game, but the Peacocks pulled back within 11 on a Blaise Ffrench layup with 4:55 left, but they could not draw closer.

Yvon Raymond finished with 16 for Saint Peter's, and Darius Conley tallied 11. Chris Burke had a game-best nine rebounds off the bench.

The Greyhounds wrap up their modest three-game homestand on Friday, January 11, when they host Fairfield University in a game that will be televised nationally on ESPNU beginning at 7 p.m.
