JAWAAN WRIGHT is back for a fifth season after graduating in May with his Loyola degree ... he began classes for his master's in the summer and is expected to provide size and experience on the frontline during the season ... will never be recognized as a scorer, but his rebounding and shot-blocking ability draws attention ... was the starting center for much of the season and should compete for that spot again this year ... one of the strongest players on the team ... good athleticism allows him to block shots and enters the season ranked ninth all-time in Loyola history with 49 career blocks ... has a chance to move into the top five with numbers like he has posted in the last two seasons ... worked hard on his free-throw shooting and ended the season making 14 of his final 16 attempts (.875).

2008-2009
Responded to his first starting role by not missing a shot during the game en route to 11 points on five-for-five shooting from the floor in the win over Tennessee State (Nov. 16) ... the next night, he blocked four shots against Boston College (Nov. 17) ... came off the bench three games after that to match his high point total by making all three of his shots from the field and five of his six attempts from the free-throw line at Davidson (Nov. 25) ... moved back in the starting lineup against Fairfield (Jan. 09) and he remained there for the rest of the season ... recorded his career-high with 13 points in the home win over Marist (Jan. 18), adding eight rebounds ... grabbed a career-best 11 boards in the win at Rider (Jan. 30) ... played a career-topping 30 minutes against Canisius (Feb. 16), scoring eight points with seven rebounds ... made four of his five free-throw tries in that game to begin a stretch where he was successful on 14 of his final 16 attempts to end the season ... included in that was a perfect six-for-six outing at Drexel (Feb. 21) a game in which he also collected eight rebounds ... ended the year with 29 blocked shots, good for ninth all-time on the Loyola single-season charts.

2007-2008
Opted to sit out the season as a non-participating redshirt as the Greyhounds' roster boasted three seniors in front of him ... retained that year of eligibility and is using it this season. 2006-2007 Appeared in the first 27 contests and then just two of the last four, all off the bench ... twice scored six points in a contest during the campaign ... first time was at American (Nov. 20), making both of his field-goal attempts and a pair of free throws to go with three rebounds in 13 minutes ... equaled that scoring effort in 19 minutes in win at Iona (Jan. 27) ... grabbed five rebounds in 12 minutes at Michigan State (Dec. 30) ... collected five boards in just nine minutes against Manhattan (Jan. 24) ... scored eight points with eight rebounds while playing 25 minutes over two-game stretch at Marist (Feb. 3) and at Fairfield (Feb. 05) ... followed that with three blocks and two rebounds in just eight minutes in home win over Canisius (Feb. 9) ... scored four points with four rebounds in 15 minutes at Canisius (Feb. 25).

2005-2006
Opened his collegiate career with a bang, scoring 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds in 19 minutes in the season-opening win at Towson (Nov. 19) ... followed that with seven points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes in a home win against Maryland-Baltimore County (Nov. 27) ... made three field goals in each of those two games but tallied just five more the remainder of the season ... finished with appearances in 23 games, including a start against Iona (Feb. 08) ... played 17 minutes in that game, grabbing five rebounds but failing to score ... earned that lone start on the strength of a six-point, four-rebound effort in 15 minutes at Manhattan (Feb. 05) in the game prior.

Before Loyola
Played both basketball and football at Cathedral HS in Agawam, Mass. ... captained the basketball team during his senior season ... averaged 18.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game that year ... also averaged 3.5 blocks per game during his senior season ... led team to 13-9 overall record and an appearance in the semifinals of the state playoffs ... named all-Western Massachusetts ... played one year of basketball at Northfield Mount Hermon Prep, shooting 53 percent from the field with 14 steals and nine blocked shots.

Personal
Jawaan Amir Wright is the son of Stanley and Cheryl Wright ... has an older sister, Shawna Murray, and a younger brother, Rashad, who is playing as a freshman at the College of Charleston ... both his father and uncle played basketball at the University of Rhode Island ... his grandfather played in the ABA ... was graduated in May with his Loyola degree in Sociology.
