JOSH WIEGAND enters his third season with the Greyhounds having earned a scholarship after two years in the program as a walk-on ... he sat out last year as a non-participating redshirt and has an option on an extra season following the 2011-2012 campaign ... combines good size with a nice shooting touch ... used the season off to improve his strength ... a good student who is an asset on the scout team simulating opposing big men.
Sat out the entire season and will have an opportunity for an additional season as a non-participating redshirt.
Made his Greyhounds debut with eight minutes at Boston College (Nov. 17), scoring two points with three rebounds ... broke out in the home game with Niagara (Dec. 07), coming off the bench to play 13 minutes while making all three of his shots from the field and grabbing five rebounds ... that effort earned him his first career start in his next outing against Coppin State (Dec. 10) ... he played a career-best 15 minutes with two points, four rebounds, one block and one steal in that Greyhounds win ... started five of the next six outings, scoring his final points of the year at Canisius (Jan. 03) ... would play in just two games the remainder of the season ... finished the year with 16 points and 15 rebounds in 14 games, making six of his eight attempts from the field with four blocked shots.
Played three years of varsity at John Carroll HS in nearby Bel Air ... named the Most Outstanding Player following his senior year as he helped his team to a 21-12 record ... squad reached the MIAA semifinals ... scored 10 points with six rebounds for the County All-Stars in the 2008 Charm City Classic ... played summers for the Maryland Elite and the AAU Baltimore Stars ... also played one year of football at John Carroll ... selected for the high school honor roll.
Joshua Roy Wiegand is the son of John and Aneita Wiegand ... has two brothers, Tyler and Jacob ... majoring in Computer Science at Loyola.
