Hess was an impressive swimmer from 1984-88. She earned the Lagna Award as Loyola's Outstanding Senior Female student-athlete in her senior year of 1988. Hess, who was voted Most Valuable Swimmer by her teammates in 1985, 1987, and 1988, held the Loyola career scoring record of 1,325 points at the time of her induction. She led the team in scoring during three of her four years at Loyola. In post-season competition, she was awarded 12 gold, 15 silver, and five bronze medals. Hess, Loyola's team captain in 1987-88, helped lead the Greyhounds to a 44-9-1 record, two Maryland state championships, and one Tri-State title in her four years at Loyola. She held school records in four events: the 100 yard and 200 yard breaststroke, the 200 IM, and the 200 meter medley relay.
