Karpovich was a four-year starter at the sweeper position for Loyola men's soccer teams that twice reached the NCAA quarterfinals and finished with an overall record of 58-16-9 from 1984-1987. He earned all-state, all-South Region and all-ECAC honors in 1986 and 1987 and was the Greyhounds' "Defensive Player of the Year" his sophomore, junior and senior years. A Baltimore native and Calvert Hall graduate, he was a large factor in Loyola's amazing 20 shutout victories in 1986 and 1987, including four shutout wins in NCAA tournament competition. Appointed a team captain his junior and senior seasons, Karpovich was also an Adidas Academic All-America selection in 1987. After graduation, he played for the Maryland Bays and for the MISL's Baltimore Blast.
