John earned first team All-Conference and All-American honors. He was a member on Loyola's NCAA National Championship squad and the USA Olympic Team. He earned a spot in the prestigious Senior Bowl game. He recorded 27 shutouts in 58 games and added 470 saves to the record books while allowing only 42 goals. The 1977 season was cut short when John suffered a broken hand and mononucleosis, but despite these afflictions he appeared in four games and made 26 saves. In 1976 he made 166 saves for an 8.3 saves per game average.
