Brannan was a distinguished athlete in two sports: baseball and basketball. He was also a dedicated student who graduated from Loyola in just two and a half years. Brannan was the leader of Loyola's outstanding baseball team from 1943-45. He helped the 1943 team to the Mason-Dixon Conference championship. Brannan was the Greyhounds' top hitter in 1944 and 1945. In his senior year, Brannan hit .420 for the Greyhounds. He also was a valuable contributor on the basketball court, but baseball was always Brannan's passion.
