Cross Country Teams Head To NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional
Nov. 10, 2011
BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's cross country teams make the short trip to Princess Anne, Md., on Saturday for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional hosted by University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The men's race will begin at noon followed by the women's race at 1:15 p.m.
The women's side finished 14th at the Mid-Atlantic Regional last year and are coming off a third-place finish at the 2011 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships on October 28.
Senior Emily Doucette was the top-finisher at the Regional last year, finishing 58th of 204 runners with a time of 22:13, in a meet that took place at University Park, Pa. Stephanie Gibney also had a strong showing in 73rd with a time of 22:35.
Kiera Harrison also will bring experience to the course after competing in the regional last season.
The Greyhounds finished the regular-season ranked 14th in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The men's side finished 25th a year ago and are coming off an eighth-place finish at the MAAC Championships.
Senior captain Matt Hassett has consistently been the top-performer for the Greyhounds all season and looks to continue that trend at the regional. Hassett was the top-finisher at the regional last year, finished 131st. He also was the top-Greyhound at the MAAC Championship with a 28th-place finish.
Senior Ian McArtney looks to continue his strong season in his final year at Loyola and is coming off a 34th-place finish at the conference championship.
Juniors D.J. Puleo and Tyler Ems also will be important pieces to the Greyhound effort after placing 35th and 56th respectively at the MAAC Championship.
The teams will make the trip back to Bronx, N.Y., on November 19 as the women compete in the ECAC Championships and the men take part in the IC4A Championships.
