Women's XC Finished In The Top 50 Percent

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -  The Loyola University Maryland women’s cross country team finished the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional 6K race in the top 50 percent, while the men’s team finished the 10K race 25th overall. The race was intertwined on the blue and white golf courses at Penn State, in University Park, Pa.

On the women’s side, the Greyhounds came across the finish line with a time of 22:47, good enough for 14th place.

Jackie D’Antonio was the top women’s finisher, with a pace of 5:52, and a total race time of 21:52. D’Antonio finshed 41st followed by junior Kiera Harrison (21:58, 46), Anna Bosse (22:53, 92), Emily Rooney (23:12, 116), Kelly Maguire (24:01, 165), Erica Canas (24:17, 166), and Calli Pappas (24:18, 169).

The Nittany Lions finished first, followed by Georgetown and Villanova, while Maryland University beat out the Greyhounds by only two points.  Penn State and the Hoyas received an automatic bid to Louisville, Ky., for the NCAA championships.

In the men’s division, the Greyhounds finished with 740 points, only 49 points behind the number 24 finisher, St. Francis University.

The Greyhound team was led by underclassmen, especially rookie Patrick Makles who had the best Greyhound time, with a 33:44 finish. Tyler Ems, Giles Mosher, Ryan Blake, and Chris O’Brien also notched points for the men’s team.

The top three team finishes on the men’s side were close, all scoring within five points of one another. Georgetown (56 points), Villanova (57), and Princeton (61) finished in the top three, respectively. The fourth place finisher, American University ended the race with 145 points.

The Greyhounds return back to the course on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Bronx, N.Y. for the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
