Women's XC Sixth, Men Ninth In Patriot League Poll

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland women's cross country was picked to finish sixth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, while the men were picked ninth, as announced by the League office Thursday.
The United States Naval Academy, which won the past five men's and past two women's league titles, swept the preseason poll. The Midshipmen earned nine first-place votes for the men, and 18 for the women.
The Greyhounds received 36 and 76 men's and women's votes, respectively.
Last season, the women took home their 12th consecutive fourth place finish at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships. Alumna Jackie D'Antonio and senior Kiera Harrison both finished in the top-10, coming across the finish line in fourth and eighth place, respectively.
The women also earned a preseason No. 14 ranking in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic Regional Poll.
On the men's side, Loyola ended the 2012 MAAC campaign in 10th place with a total of 285 points. Then rookie, Patrick Makles was the top Greyhound male finisher, taking 60th place with a time of 26:43.
Loyola opens its 2013 season on Saturday, August 31 at the Seagull Open in Salisbury, Maryland.
