Nov. 19, 2005
BRONX, N.Y. - Competing in her final college meet, senior Caitlin Dunne finished in second place overall with a time of 18:14.6 to lead the Greyhound women's cross country team to a sixth place finish at the 2005 ECAC/IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, junior Brendan O'Kane led the men's team to an 11th place showing by completing the course in a time of 26:22.2, which was good for an 11th place individual standing.
"This was a great way for us to finish the season," Coach Rick Woods said. "We are really proud of what both teams have done."
Dunne, who finished just four seconds behind the overall winner, helped Loyola end the cross country season with a strong meet. She was followed by junior Andrea Rovegno, who finished in fourth place with a time of 18:25.1. Junior Jackie Gaines finished in 51th place while freshman Maureen Wynne followed just two places behind Gaines for 53th place.
Junior Sarah Spencer rounded out the Loyola scoring by finishing in 80th place with a time of 20:38.3.
After O'Kane finished the race in 11th place, freshman Chris Heibell crossed the finish line in 23rd place with a time of 26:38.7, which was followed by fellow classmate Brian Scullin, who ended the race in 73rd place. Andrew Rice and John Grunert completed the scoring for the Greyhounds.
"Both teams have shown great improvement over the season and it has shown in each of our last two races," Woods said. "With this type of improvement, things can only get better for us."
