Cross Country Competes At NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional
PRINCETON, N.J. - The Loyola University Maryland men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional hosted by Princeton Friday afternoon.
Senior Erica Canas led the Greyhounds’ women’s team to a 22nd-place finish (626 points). Canas took 82nd overall and crossed the finish line in 22:58.7. Freshman Christina Daniels wasn’t far behind, coming in 88th with a time of 23:03.8.
Sophomore Kendyl Fahmy was the final Greyhound to contribute to the team’s point total, taking 177th in 25:21.2.
In the team standings, Penn State and Georgetown took first and second, respectively, and will advance to the NCAA Championship meet Saturday, Nov. 21.
On the men’s side, sophomore Alex Saffadi led the charge, helping the Greyhounds finish 24th overall with 745 points. Saffadi crossed the 10k-finish line in 33:50.3, taking 122nd.
Junior Brad Beard was second on the team, finishing 150th in 35:14.8, while sophomore John Miller (156th, 35:44.1), freshman Ben Hosford (157th, 35:51.4) and junior Tom Porth (160th, 36:02.9) rounded out Loyola’s scoring effort.
Freshman Alex Buchholz (162nd, 36:09.4) and junior Kevin Montgomery (164th, 37:07.1) also competed at the regional meet.
The top two men’s teams – Georgetown and Penn – will advance to the NCAA Championship race in Louisville, Kentucky, next week.
