WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Loyola University Maryland senior cross country runner Jackie D'Antonio won the 2012 Tribe Open, hosted by the College of William & Mary, on Saturday morning, covering the 6k course in 21:46.1 to become the first Greyhounds harrier to win a meet in over six years.

D'Antonio put a four-second gap between herself and the second-place finisher, Maryland Eastern Shore's Petra Kubesova, who checked in at 21:50.9.

Her win marks the first time a Loyola women's runner has won a cross country race since Andrea Rovegno claimed the Navy Invitational title on September 16, 2006. Last year, D'Antonio was the top collegiate runner at the Great American XC Festival, placing second overall to an unattached runner.

She helped lead the Loyola women to a second place finish at the meet with 51 points, trailing only the host Tribe, which finished with 33 points.

Kiera Harrison was the second Loyola runner across the line, finishing in 22:34.2, in seventh place overall. Anna Bosse was 14th in 23:05.8, while Emily Rooney placed 17th in 23:18.2.

Kelly Maguire rounded out Loyola's scoring quintet, placing 22nd in 23:46.4. A pair of other Greyhounds - Mary DeGregorio (26th, 24:01.1) and Erica Canes (29th, 24:09.4) - were close behind.

The Loyola men claimed third at the meet with 79 points, finishing behind Fordham (18 points) and William & Mary (40).

DJ Puleo led the Greyhounds in 12th place (26:49.6) on the 8k course, just edging his teammate Patrick Makles who was 13th in 26:52.9.

Giles Mosher was 17th in 29:04.3, and Chris O'Brien came in 18th (29:19.5). Ryan Blake was one place behind (30:02.8) to round out the scoring, while Chris Graham and Sean Brennan finished 20th and 21st in 30:47.1 and 31:50.6.
