Raleigh, N.C. - Running in the most competitive meet they've entered in 2004, Loyola's women's cross country team placed seventh of 13 teams while the Greyhound men took ninth of 16 at the Great American Cross Country Festival hosted by North Carolina State University on Friday afternoon.

The Greyhound women fell narrowly to East Carolina and Albany while High Point captured the team crown. Loyola's men placed just behind East Carolina, Albany and Pittsburgh as Jacksonville took the men's title.

Loyola's Andrea Rovegno recorded the best individual Greyhound performance on the day as she finished fifth overall with a time of 18:42 on the 5,000-meter women's course. James daSilva led the men's squad with a 14th-place finish and an 8,000-meter time of 26:42.

Jackie Truncellito was the next Loyola woman to cross the finish line with her time of 19:23. Jackie Gaines (20:28) ran well to take 45th place, Sarah Spencer (20:50) picked up 56th place and freshman Lauren Bivona (21:10) put forth a strong performance to grab 71st.

Brendan O'Kane finished behind DaSilva on the men's side in 36th place with a time of 27:25. Pat Rice ran his best race of the season as he crossed the finish line at the 27:45 mark to take 46th place. Brian Parker (28:34) took 65th and Andrew Rice (29:05) snagged 81st to round out the scoring for the Greyhounds.

"The conditions were difficult today with the combination of the weather being pretty hot and the tough course," said first-year Head Coach Rick Woods. "But, our times and our places were excellent considering the conditions. The competition was also the toughest we've faced this year, but we handled that well, too, so everyone is very satisfied with the results."
