Annapolis, Md. - Jackie Truncellito and Andrea Rovegno finished sixth and seventh overall in leading Loyola's women's cross country team to a fourth place team finish while the Greyhound men took fifth at the Salty Dog Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Truncellito completed the 6,000-meter course in a time of 23:25, edging Rovegno by two seconds at the end after both had worked very well together throughout the race.

Loyola fell to only Navy, American and Furman while defeating Monmouth, Towson, UMBC, UMES, and the Citadel.

Sarah Spencer (24:41) took 27th overall, Jackie Gaines grabbed 58th, and freshman Caroline Scott secured 62nd to round out the top-five for the Greyhounds.

Loyola's men were led by senior James DaSilva's 26th place finish and his 8,000-meter time of 26:26.

The Greyhounds, who had their top-five place among the top-60 overall, finished behind national-power American, Navy, Furman, and UMBC by a slim margin.

Sophomore transfer Brendan O'Kane and freshman Andrew Rice crossed the finish line at exactly the same time -- 27:02 -- to take 32nd and 33rd places. Pat Rice set a personal best 8K time by one minute as he placed 42nd, and freshman Brian Parker took 57th. For the third week in a row, first year head coach Rick Woods was very happy with both squads' performances.

"The competition was really tough," said Woods. "Given the high level of competition, both the men and women ran very well, especially considering the treacherous conditions that the remnants of Hurricane Ivan presented. The placements by both teams were great for this time of year and a surprising number of personal bests were set, despite the weather."

Loyola is off next week, but returns to action Friday, October 1st when it heads to the great American Cross Country Festival in Raleigh, NC.
