Sept. 14, 2013
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Loyola University Maryland senior cross country runner Kiera Harrison broke the 6k program record at the Salty Dog Invitational, hosted by the United States Naval Academy, covering the course in 20:51.75.
Harrison trailed the top-finisher, Annie-Norah Beveridge of Navy, by only five seconds as the winner checked in at 20:46.23.
Harrison’s second place finish tops the previous record by nearly 11 seconds recorded by Andrea Rovegno in 2005. This was the second-consecutive meet Harrison finished first among all other Greyhound participants.
She helped lead the Loyola women to a fifth place finish with 113 points, trailing the host Navy who finished first, University of Maryland in second and UMBC and American in third and fourth, respectively.
Anna Bosse was the second Loyola runner across the line, finishing 11th in 21:45.50. Her time was good enough for seventh place in the all-time program record books.
Kelly Maguire was 42nd in 23:02.23, and Jessica Peters came in 52nd (23:17.63). Rookie Sarah Askine finished 54th with a time of 23:22.84, just edging sophomore Sara Gilson into 55th place (23:23.00).

For the second week in a row Chris Regan was Loyola’s top male performer, becoming the first freshman to finish an 8k race in less 27 minutes.
The Northport, N.Y., native finished 44th with a time of 26:52.13 on the 8k course. Just over a minute later Sam Ballard (27:43.06) and Brad Beard (28:03.90) crossed one right after the other for 53rd and 54th place, respectively.
