Women's XC 4th, Men 8th At Season-Opening Seagull Open

SALISBURY, Md. - Freshman Erica Canas led the Loyola University Maryland women's cross country team in her first collegiate race, placing 12th at the Seagull Open on Saturday afternoon, helping the Greyhound women to a fourth-place finish in the 6k race.

DJ Puleo was Loyola's top male finisher, taking 15th (27:15) on the 8k course, as the Greyhounds finished eighth as a team.

Jackie D'Antonio was right behind Canas, who finished in 23:22, placing 13th one second back. Canas' classmate, Sara Gilson was Loyola's No. 3 finisher, coming in 23rd in 23:47.

Rachel Nerenberg took 28th in 24:08, and Emily Rooney rounded out Loyola's top five with a 31st-place finish in 24:15.

On the men's side, Patrick Makles finished 42nd in 28:31, while Ryan Blake was 75th in 29:42. Chris O'Brien crossed the line in 84th (30:40), and Giles Mosher was the Greyhounds' No. 5 finisher, placing 89th in 31:01.

Other Loyola men who competed at the race were Chris Graham (100th, 32:00), Sean Brennan (101st, 32:10), Evan Wagenfeld (105th, 33:35) and Brandon Lim (106th, 33:49).

For the women, other competitors included Jessica Peters (40th, 24:27), Kellyanne Bondulich (45th, 24:41), Kelly Maguire (46th, 24:42), Alyssa Dorney (54th, 25:08), Calli Pappas (58th, 25:15), Margaret Larkin (73rd, 26:10), Elizabeth Sypek (76th, 26:19) and Christian Bearden (122nd, 28:44).
