Cross Country Opens Season Strong At Seagull Open

Johns Hopkins swept the meet, winning both the men's and women's titles with 18 and 15 points, respectively.
Veteran experience led the women to their top-five finish, paced by senior Anna Bosse, who came in 10th in 22.19.13. Erica Canas (13th, 23:10.21) and Kelly Maguire (23:19.83) finished less than 10 seconds apart, followed by sophomore Sarah Askine at 23:51.67 to place 22nd. The freshmen duo of Julianne Groshon (26th, 24:17.52) and Megan Ritz (31st, 24:38.81) rounded out the Greyhounds' 64-point scoring total.
Daniella Joyce (39th, 25:28.94), Kendyl Fahmy (42nd, 25:39.06), Olivia Sbrocco (45th, 25:47.47), Caitlyn McGuinness (49th, 26:12.63), Mary DeGregorio (53rd, 26:21.43), Amanda Spaeth (57th, 26:33.22), Kellyanne Bondulich (67th, 27:07.15) and Emily Richards (77th, 29:41.57) also competed in the season opener.
"I'm pretty happy with both teams' outcomes," Head Coach Rick Woods said. "Both races were very close and we needed only a few more points to move up in the standings. I'm thrilled that Anna could medal in today's race, and the men made big improvements from last year."
Kevin Montgomery led the men's squad, coming in 28th in 27:07.48, while Chris Regan (35th, 27:42.11) and Alex Saffadi (39th, 27:51.72) followed in next for the Greyhounds. Brad Beard (49th, 28:16.24), Michael Michon (28:28.55) and John Miller (58th, 28:36.30) contributed points to the team total of 159.
Chris O'Brien (63rd, 28:50.29), Tom Porth (71st, 29:48.61), Michael O'Donnell (74th, 29:56.43), Sean Brennan (76th, 30:25.89) and Brandon Lim (78th, 30:53.23) also competed in Saturday's race in Salisbury.
Loyola returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 13, to run in the Salty Dog Invite in Annapolis, Maryland.
