Tennis Alumna Finalist In Under Armour `What's Beautiful' Competition
June 27, 2012
BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland tennis alumna Kaitlin (Russo) Loftus '04 is one of 10 finalists for the Under Armour "What's Beautiful" competition.
Under Armour, which is the official outfitter of Loyola University Maryland athletics, recently asked women to state a training goal beginning with the company's motto of `I Will'. From the thousands of entrants, 10 finalists were chosen for the competition that will in three being named the new faces of Under Armour. Two will be chosen by the company, and a third by fan voting.
Loftus, who competed for the Greyhounds from 2000-2004 as a tennis player, is now a teacher at Edgewood Elementary School in Baltimore City. There, while working with her students, she saw the Under Armour contest and entered with the following declaration:
"I WILL... Challenge my Baltimore City elementary girls by leading them to complete a series of exercises followed by a one-mile run, which will result in increased endurance, determination, confidence, and a sense of empowerment."
Loftus helped her students work out for 40 minutes after school, and in May, she helped them run a mile at a local track. For more on her work at Edgewood, click here to watch a video from WMAR-TV/ABC-2.
As a tennis player at Loyola, she helped the Greyhounds win the 2001 and 2002 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference titles and advance to the NCAA Championships. She won 75 singles and 69 doubles matches for the Greyhounds, marks that stand in the program's top-five all-time. In 2001-2002, as a sophomore, she tied the then school-record of 28 singles victories in a season.
