Action Underway At Patriot League Tennis Kickoff
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Two Loyola University Maryland men's tennis doubles teams advanced to the semifinals of Flight A on Friday at the Patriot League Kickoff Tournament with wins in their opening matches at the competition.
Collin Kanuch and Charlie Shanker will meet in the Flight D Singles quarterfinals on Saturday after both won their first-round contests. Kanuch was a 7-6 (3), 6-2 winner against Lafayette's Reed, while Shanker knocked off Colgate's Cameron Swanson, 6-2, 6-2.
Lehigh's Jack Martin-Dyer got past Brian Hoffarth, 6-2, 6-2, and the Mountain Hawks' Petersen was a 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 victor over Jones in Flight A Singles.
Lafayette's Chris Kim was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Rodrigo Moreno in Flight D. No Loyola players competed in Flights B or C on Friday and will commence their play in the tournament Saturday.
Shanker and Moreno will play in the Flight B Doubles semifinals on Saturday after scoring a pair of Friday wins. They first knocked off a team of Lehigh's Sam Bencheghib and Colgate's Swanson, 6-4, before dispatching Colgate's Alec Dardis and Jack Albon, 6-3, in the quarterfinals.
In women's action, Kateri Marin won her first-round match, 6-3, 6-1, over Colgate's Mackenzie Deeter in Flight A.
Nicole Eberle fell in her first round match in Flight B, 6-1, 6-2, to Paula Gonzalez.
The doubles team of Agee and Lin Robertson won two Flight A matches Friday to advance to Saturday's semifinals. They first took care of Bucknell's Emilie Bush and Schuyler La Barge, 6-4, before taking down Lehigh's Christina Auyeung and Casey Zhong, 7-6 (2), in the quarterfinal round.
Boustany and Granato lost in the Flight B first round to Rachel Carroll and Madeline Melch, while Eberle and Clark fell, 6-4, to Leavy and Ayuso.
Play is slated to resume on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock.
