Loyola University Maryland's Rachel Janasek opened the 2011-2012 season in style this weekend, winning the Flight `A' Singles draw at the Bucknell Invitational.
Janasek cruised through her four matches, winning each in straight sets. She defeated Luz Jasso-Gascon from St. Francis (Pa.), 6-2, 6-3, in the Championship match.
Sabrina Fedele reached the semifinals by winning a pair of matches. She was then was topped by Jasso-Gascon, 7-5, 6-4.
Olivia Ott, playing in her first collegiate competition, was victorious in three matches in the `B' Singles draw before falling in the bracket's championship match.
Liz Black won two matches to get to the `B' Singles consolation bracket, and Tiffany Ash got through to the consolation semifinals of the draw.
Another Loyola player, Jackie Lionetta, had a highly successful weekend, reaching the final of the `C' Singles Flight where she was topped by Anne Cognetti of Villanova, 6-2, 7-6.
The Greyhounds' doubles partners also saw success during the invitational. Janasek and Ott captured the `A' Doubles title, defeating Villanova's Mikelle Mancini and Sarah West, 8-6.
Judy Lite and Lionetta reached the `B' Doubles semifinals, and Black and Rachel Bergeron wont he `B' Doubles consolation final.
In men's action at the tournament, Connor Lisco reached the `A' flight consolation final, and Patrick Glaessner advanced to the `B' flight consolation final, defeating Keishi Goto in the semifinal along the way.
Lisco and Ryan Fitzgerald got through to the `A' doubles consolation final, as well.
