Women's Tennis Falls To Marist, 4-3, In MAAC Semifinals

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - The Loyola University Maryland women’s tennis team dropped a close, 4-3, decision to Marist in the semifinals of the MAAC Championships at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J., on Saturday.
Loyola jumped out to the early lead, claiming an important doubles point by winning two of the three matches.
The Greyhounds had wins at both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots. Scarlett Hoy and Judy Lite defeated Sabrina Tahir and Kayla O’Donovan, 8-4, in second doubles, while Tiffany Ash and Jackie Lionetta also grabbed an, 8-4, win, topping Marist’s Joana Sun and Marielle Campbell.
The Red Foxes battled back against the Greyhounds by winning four of the six singles matches to move into the conference finals on Sunday.
Marist had wins at the No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles spots, with two of those matches going to a third set.
Rachel Janasek forced a third set at No. 1 singles against Kelsey Raynor, but fell, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Ash also took Campbell to a third set, but was topped, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Sabrina Fedele and Lionetta each notched victories at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Fedele, an All-MAAC First Team selection, beat Sun, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Lionetta beat O’Donovan in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
