Tennis Falls Short in MAAC Duals Match

BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland men and women's tennis team came up short in MAAC competition on Sunday at Niagara University.
The men's team (5-1, 0-1 MAAC) had a tough day as the Purple Eagles (9-6, 3-0 MAAC) handed the Greyhounds their first loss of the season, 7-0.
The women's team (3-1, 0-1 MAAC) fought to the final singles match. Greyhound #4 singles Olivia Ott fell in extra sets, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5, to Niagara's Maria Ortiz to give the Purple Eagles (9-5, 4-0 MAAC) the 4-3 victory.
In doubles, Niagara took the early lead as the #1 and #2 matches were won giving the deciding point to the Purple Eagles.
In singles, the Greyhounds jumped off to a strong start taking three of the first four singles matches, which gave Loyola a 3-2 lead for the day. Loyola's Megan Hahn, Emily Hughes and Scarlett Hoy all won their singles match.
Both teams head back to Butler Courts for another dual match on Tuesday as Hampton University travels to Baltimore. Match is set to start at 2:30 p.m.
