Tennis Teams Split Against Niagara Saturday

BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams split their matches against Niagara University on Saturday afternoon at Butler Courts. The women took home a 4-3 victory, while the men fell, 6-1.
The women improved to 9-1 on the season, and started the day by sweeping the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Rachel Janasek and Olivia Ott defeated Hillary Hansen and Ivan Celan, 8-2, in first doubles. Scarlett Hoy and Judy Lite won a hard-fought battle with Niagara's Ashley Pa and Maria Ortiz, 9-7, in second doubles, and Sabrina Fedele and Tiffany Ash defeated Jenna McClune and Rachel Zilka, 6-3, 6-1.
Sabrina Fedele defeated Ashley Pa, 6-2, 6-3, in number three singles in what proved to be the deciding singles match for the Greyhounds, clinching the match at 4-3.
On the men’s side, Niagara swept the doubles point with three victories as the Purple Eagles handed Loyola its first defeat of the season.
Keyan Sanai, at first singles, notched the lone point of the match for Loyola, defeating Joe Zelic, 6-1, 6-4.
The Greyhounds are back in action vs. Robert Morris at Butler Courts on Saturday at 10 a.m.
