Tennis Sweeps Monmouth In Sunday Action
LITTLE SILVER, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland women's tennis lost just one set Sunday as the Greyhounds scored a 7-0 sweep of host Monmouth University at the Little Silver Racquet Club.
Chloe Boustany bounced back from a 4-6 first-set loss to defeat Sydney Denardo in a super-tiebreaker third, 6-1, (5), at No. 6 singles. The rest of the Greyhounds won their matches in straight-sets.
Loyola opened with a 1-0 lead after claiming all three doubles matches. Kateri Martin beat Amanda Lanciano downed Sophia Fredriksson and Maria Ivanova, 6-0, at No. 1, and Lin Robertson and Abigail Thornton took care of Caroline Matisse and Alexandra Graff, 6-3, at No. 2. Nicole Eberle and Boustany finished off doubles play with a 6-2 win over Denardo and Rachel Rosenthal at No. 3.
Martin lost just one point in her No. 1 singles match, defeating Graff, 6-1, 6-0, while Lanciano was a 6-4, 6-3, winner over Fredriksson at No. 2.
Robertson dispatched Rosenthal, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3, and Eberle outlasted Ivanova, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 4. Thornton did not yield a single point, blanking Matisse, 6-0, 6-0.
