Men's Tennis Holds Off Terriers For 4-3 Win
MILFORD MILL, Md. - Loyola University Maryland men's tennis took an early lead by winning the doubles point Friday night against St. Francis Brooklyn University, and the Greyhounds held on for a 4-3 non-conference victory at the Twin Lakes Racquet Club.
C.J. Cash and Reid Burch teamed to put up a 6-0 doubles victory at No. 2 against Alejandro Ridruejo and Adolfo Blanco, and Jones and Fitzmaurice clinched the doubles point with a tiebreaker-win against Javier Navarro and Pablo Blasco, 7-6 (5).
Jones came through with a straight-sets victory over Navarro, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 2 singles, and Gower was a 6-3, 6-1 victor against Blasco at No. 5 singles. Fitzmaurice dispatched Stefan Gmijovic, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 6.
Ridruejo claimed a win at No. 1 singles for the Terriers, beating Loyola's Brian Hoffarth, 6-2, 6-4, and Guillermo Artiz outlasted Burch, 7-6 (1), 3-6, (17) at No. 3. Blanco also scored a 6-4, 6-4 win over Cash at No. 4 singles.
The Greyhounds are back in action on Saturday, February 3, when they travel to Washington, D.C., to face Howard University.
