CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland senior Ben Cono was named the Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday, earning the honor for the second time this year after swimming a season-best time in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Cono earned an NCAA ‘B’ Qualifying Standard in the event on Saturday, touching the wall in 53.59 seconds for what the No. 16 time in the nation as of November 21.

The Long Island native helped the Greyhounds to a pair of victories last week over Virginia Military Institute and Howard. He swam off-events against the Keydets, and his 100-yard breaststroke victory was his lone individual event against the Bison.

Cono has won all six 100-yard breaststroke events he has entered this year and is 11-1 overall in breaststroke races.

In addition to Cono’s honor, junior Lindsey Staszewski was named to the Patriot League weekly honorable mention. Staszewski set a school record in the 1-meter diving event Wednesday against VMI, scoring 270.45 points and qualifying for the NCAA Zone ‘A’ Diving Regional. She broke the 2014 record set by Elizabeth Mixa and is the first zone qualifier since Mixa that season.

The award is the four of Cono’s career and his second this season. He also earned the nod on October 31 after winning three events and setting a pool record in the Greyhounds’ October 28 meet at Lehigh.

Loyola is back in action for its final meet of the calendar year when it hosts the H2ounds Invitational against Iona, Marist, Mount St. Mary’s and Saint Peter’s. The two-day meet starts on Friday, December 1, with a 5 p.m. session and resumes Saturday, December 2, with sessions at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
