Nov. 18, 2013
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Three Loyola University Maryland Greyhounds have earned Patriot League Swimmer and Diver of the Week awards, as announced by the league office on Monday. Freshman Aidan O’Hara was named the men’s swimmer of the week, while Brown and Mixa were the men’s and women’s divers of the week, respectively. Senior Erin Shea was also included among the league’s honorable mention performances.
O’Hara swept all four events he competed in in a 197-91 win over Colgate on Saturday to earn his first weekly honor. The Sterling, Va., native touched first in the 100 back (52.87), 200 back (1:52.52) and the 500 free (4:49.27), while he also led Loyola’s 200 medley relay of freshman Dale Maholage, sophomore Richard Mueller and sophomore Nigel Hunter to victory in 1:37.98. The relay title marked the second-straight week that the quartet has combined to win the event, while his 200 back time was a season-best.
Brown earned his third Patriot League Men’s Diver of the Week honor after sweeping the diving boards for a second time this season. The Timonium, Md., native won his fourth 1-meter competition with a season-best score of 292.79. He also captured his second 3-meter title by recording 281.02 points.
Mixa swept the boards for a third-straight week to earn her second weekly honor of the season. The diver from St. Petersburg Beach, Fla., won her fourth 1-meter diving title in her fifth meet, tallying 247.34 points. She followed that up with her third 3-meter title with a score of 245.40.
Shea helped the Greyhounds’ women’s squad remain undefeated this season with a 164.4-125.5 win over Colgate. She touched first in the 100 fly (59.09) and the 200 fly (2:11.27), while she also recorded a fifth-place finish in the 100 free (54.44).
Loyola will return to the pool on Friday, Dec. 6 when it hosts the two-day H2ounds Invitational. Marist, Saint Peter’s and Iona will visit Mangione Pool for the program’s final meet of the calendar year.
