BALTIMORE - A fantastic group of 614 runners from the Baltimore area and the Loyola community took part in the 7th-Annual Diane Geppi-Aikens 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk on a mild Saturday morning.

The crowd was the second-largest in the race's history and marked the third-straight year the race has drawn more than 600 participants.

Loyola's swimming and diving team won the Team Challenge portion of the race with 79 participants.

Four members of the team were amongst the top 20 finishers: freshman Joe Conti (8th, 18:54), freshman Ryan Shovlin (9th, 19:54), junior Tim Rowe (15th, 20:04) and sophomore Tony Florida (20th, 20:26).

Also, four swimmers won age group awards at the race: Sara Mion (1st place, Female, age 16-19), Courtney Trivino (3rd place, Female, age 16-19), Lauren McNoble (3rd place, Female, age 20-29) and Conti (2nd place, Male, ages 16-19).

The race was held on the College's campus in honor of the Loyola women's lacrosse coach who passed away in 2003 after a brave battle with brain cancer.

In addition to many local road runners, family and friends of Geppi-Aikens, and Loyola athletics teams, women's lacrosse teams from Loyola, Maryland, Goucher and Towson all ran or walked at the event.

The event supports the Aikens Children's Trust and is held annually on the third Saturday in September.
