Swimming And Diving Adds Alec Yarbrough From Team IMPACT
Sept. 12, 2013
BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland recently added another member to its men's swimming and diving roster, drafting Alec Yarbrough, a member of Team IMPACT, to the squad for the upcoming season.
Yarbrough is currently undergoing treatment for Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), and was paired up with the Greyhounds by Team IMPACT, a non-profit chartered to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening illnesses by matching them with college athletic teams.
"Throughout this season, we hope to demonstrate the value of sportsmanship, courage and commitment to Alec," head coach Brian Loeffler said. "We hope that by signing his draft letter, he is as excited as we are to begin this journey together."
On his draft day, Yarbrough met with members of the team and signed a letter of intent before touring the Mangione Pool and locker room at the Fitness and Aquatics Center. As a member of the team, he will now be able to attend practices and competitions with the Greyhounds, giving him an opportunity to interact with others even though he is unable to attend school.
Yarbrough and the Greyhounds will begin the 2013-14 year, their inaugural season in the Patriot League, on Thursday, Oct. 3 when they travel to Annapolis to take on George Mason and Navy.
