Brown And Mixa Named CSCAA Individual Scholar All-Americans

BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland senior divers Michael Brown and Elle Mixa were named CSCAA Individual Scholar All-Americans, as announced by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Monday.
Brown and Mixa became Loyola’s first pair of divers to qualify for the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships in the same season, with Brown finishing in a tie for 44th overall with a score of 213.85 on the 1-meter boards. Mixa, also competing in 1-meter diving, took 48th with a score of 179.15.
Mixa became Loyola’s first-ever female diver to qualify for Zone Diving when she broke the school record in a dual meet at Lehigh on January 18. Mixa recorded a personal-best score of 266.92 to break Megan Sterback’s school record of 255.23 from 2006.
Throughout the year, Mixa won seven 1 –meter and seven 3-meter diving titles, including sweeping the boards at five different competitions. She was named the Patriot League Diver of the Week on four occasions, giving her more weekly awards than any other swimmer or diver in the league this year, and she became the first-ever Greyhound to advance to the finals of an ever at the Patriot League Championships, finishing sixth on the 1-meter diving boards.
Brown dominated the boards this season, breaking the Mangione Pool record in the 1-meter diving event and shattering his own school record in 3-meter diving. On senior day versus New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Brown qualified for Zone Diving by bettering Rider’s Paul Apostolakis’ pool record of 334.45 from the 2010 season. Brown was just shy of Terry DelPrete’s 28-year-old school record of 338.90 from 1985.
Brown also shattered his own record in 3-meter diving by winning the Thomas Murphy Invitational with a score of 299.40, which replaced his old record of 275.03 from 2011. Throughout the year, he was victorious on the 1-meter board nine times, while he captured 3-meter diving titles. He swept the boards four times and earned Patriot League Diver of the Week accolades five times.
The Honorable Mention Scholar All-America Award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester, or cumulative average, and have achieved a “B” time standard but did not qualify or compete in their respective national championship. Divers qualify by competing at their respective championship qualifying meets, zones or NCAA preliminary rounds.
