Cono Qualifies For NCAA Championships For Third-Straight Year
INDIANAPOLIS - Loyola University Maryland senior Ben Cono has qualified for the NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships for the third-straight season and will compete at the national meet March 21-24 in Minneapolis.
Cono was named the 2018 Patriot League Championships Male Swimmer of the Meet last month after winning the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes.
He is ranked 13th in NCAA Division I in the 100 breaststroke, and he also reached the NCAA ‘B’ Qualifying Standard in the longer breaststroke event and the 200-yard individual medley, events he could choose to compete in at the Championships.
Cono became the first Loyola men’s or women’s swimmer to compete at the NCAA Championships when he qualified in 2016, a feat he repeated last season.
This season, Cono set the Patriot League, Patriot League Championships and Loyola records in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 52.21 at the conference meet. He also holds the 200 breaststroke record at Loyola, 1:54.83, a mark he swam last year.
The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities will host this year’s NCAA Championships at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. More information about the Championships is available on the USA Swimming website.
