Metzler, Staszewski Earn Academic All-Patriot League Recognition
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Two members of the Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving, Zachary Metzler and Lindsey Staszewski, team earned spots on their respective Academic All-Patriot League honors on Wednesday for their work in the classroom and the pool this season.
Metzler was named to the men's team with a 3.881 grade-point average as a sophomore mathematics and physics major; Staszewski earned a spot on the women's team with a 3.901 mark as a junior biology major.
Metzler scored for the Greyhounds in the 200-yard butterfly at the Patriot League Championships, taking 14th overall for his first scoring performance at the conference meet.
He also was part of the 400-yard medley relay team that placed fourth overall, and he was 19th in the 100-yard butterfly. Metzler has earned Dean's List honors all three semesters since he joined the Greyhounds' program.
Staszewski reached the 'A' Final of the women's diving events for the third year in a row at this year's Patriot League Championships and took seventh in both the 1- and 3-meter events. She scored 240.35 points in the higher board and 229.10 on the lower.
Earlier this season, Staszewski set a school record and qualified for the March 5-8 NCAA Zone 'A' Diving Regional with a score of 270.45 points. She is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National LEadershi Honor Society, and she was a recipient of Loyola's Magis Award that honors students with superior academic performance and co-curricular involvement.
Metzler and Staszewski are both the second Academic All-Patriot League honorees for Loyola's men's and women's teams. Erin Shea earned the recognition in 2014 for the women, while Dale Maholage did so in 2015 on the men's side.
