BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland junior Brennan Morris and sophomore Caitlin Cronin have been tabbed the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimmer of the Week, respectively. Morris has earned seven of the conference’s 11 weekly awards this year, while this is Cronin’s third honor this season.

Morris, from Lutherville, Md., set two school records at Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday and won one individual event to wrap up the regular season with 24-straight undefeated victories. Morris won the 100-meter backstroke in 57.64 to shatter Sam McQuaid’s program record of 58.77 from 2009. He also led off the Greyhounds’ 400-meter medley relay of Jeffrey Rowe, Patrick Mukri and Tony Florida that broke Loyola’s 14-year old program record in the event. The quartet combined for a time of 4:01.33 to replace the former record of 4:02.85 (1998) atop the record board.

This marks the 16th career weekly honor for Morris.

Cronin wrapped up the regular season with four school records and two pool records in Loyola’s 147-115 victory at Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday. The Kingston, Mass., native won the 100-meter short course freestyle in 1:00.44 to better teammate Lauren Mari’s school record of 1:00.88 from last year. She also shattered Tori Kamuaff’s program record in the 200-meter freestyle (2:11.16, 2008) and broke MSM’s pool record, touching first in 2:06.84.

In relay events, Cronin anchored Loyola’s 400-meter medley relay to a new school and pool record, finishing in 4:32.20. The quartet of Mary Henkels, Maya Olivieri, Erin Shea and Cronin smashed Loyola’s former record of 4:45.75 from 1994. Cronin was also on the 200-meter freestyle relay team of Lauren Mari, Meghan Barry and Henkels that finished runner-up in 1:51.78, bettering Loyola’s school record of 1:53.96 from 1996.

This is Cronin’s fourth weekly award of her career.

Loyola will return to action next weekend when it heads to Buffalo, N.Y., for the 2012 MAAC Championships. The event is set to run from Thursday, Feb. 16 through Saturday, Feb. 18 at Erie Community College.
