WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving team won 20 events Saturday, en route to a victory at Howard. The Greyhound women recorded a 138-67 win over the Bison, while the men’s team earned a 124-79 victory.

Loyola received strong performances from its freshman class in its first dual meet of the season, with five winning individual events. Erin Calderoni won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.98, while Brianna Keelan won the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:27.19. Melissa Martinez touched first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.98), Maya Olivieri earned top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.38) and Rachel Zucco won the 100-yard freestyle in 56.40.

Junior Brennan Morris led the men’s team by winning two individual events to run his undefeated streak to 11-straight this season. The three-time MAAC Performer of the Week this year won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:43.76 and touched first in the 100-yard backstroke in 51.41. He was also a member of Loyola’s 400-yard medley relay team that finished first. The quartet of senior Patrick Mukri, Morris, junior Jeffrey Rowe and sophomore Julien Brice combined for a time of 3:34.08.

Mukri also won two individual events for the Greyhounds, while Brice won the 50-yard freestyle (22.07). Mukri touched first in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:19.19 and was the top finisher in the 100-yard butterfly (53.74).

Sophomore Michael Kelly rounded out the individual winners on the men’s side, clocking in at 49.11 in the 100-yard freestyle, while freshman Joe Wise set a new American Paralympic record in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching in 1:12.20.


 

 

Individual winners on the women’s side were senior Mary Henkels in the 400-yard individual medley (4:52.00), senior Courtney Trivino in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.04) and sophomore Courtney Chenet in the 500-yard freestyle (5:22.82). In addition, Loyola’s 400-yard medley relay of Henkels, Olivieri, Trivino and Keelan was victorious, combining for a time of 3:53.58.

In diving events, sophomore Elle Mixa and Michael Brown both swept the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Mixa finished first in 1-meter diving with a score of 213.45 and earned a mark of 187.20 in 3-meter diving. Brown finished 1-meter diving at 246.15 and finished with a score of 237.82 in 3-meter diving.

Loyola will return to action on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2-3, as it hosts the H2ounds Invitational at the Mangione Aquatics Center. Events are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday and at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
