BALTIMORE - Loyola's men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Canisius by more than 20 points each in the Greyhounds' season-opening meet on Saturday morning at Loyola's Fitness and Aquatic Center.

The Greyhound men were led by Stephen Price, who picked up wins in the 1,000-free and 100-back events, and Dan Casey who was a dual-winner in the one-meter and three-meter diving events.

Loyola's women's squad was led by Melissa Birkenmeier, who won the 50-free and the 100-fly, and Tess Deanehan, who triumphed in the 1,000-free and 500-free.

Both Greyhound squads' records stand at 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).

Loyola returns to action next weekend when they travel to Washington, D.C. to face Georgetown as both the Greyhound men's and women's team try to avenge losses suffered to the Hoyas last season.
