Morris Wins 14th Career MAAC Title On Day Two Of Championships

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Senior Brennan Morris won his second conference title of the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships Friday night to lead the Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving team on the second day of competition at the Burt Flickinger Center on the campus of Erie Community College.
Morris' victory in the 400 IM marks his 14th career conference crown and fourth-straight in the event. His time of 3:52.93 is an NCAA B qualifying time and was 10 seconds faster than the runner-up.
In other events throughout the day, senior Jeffrey Rowe finished third in the 100 fly with a time of 50.11, while freshman Kait Richter earned a sixth-place finish on the women's side in 58.84.
A slew of Greyhounds were among the top finishers in the 100 back, with freshmen Lizzie McKenna, Kelsey Dramis and Megan Brady being among five freshmen in the top eight. Mckenna took fourth in 58.64, Dramis was fifth in 59.51 and Brady was eighth in 59.74. On the men's side, graduate student Ryan Shea was eighth in 52.53.
In the 400 IM, junior Courtney Chenet was sixth, finishing in 4:42.19, while junior Bryan Bedacht was seventh in the men's race, touching in 4:12.48. Bedacht also earned an eighth-place finish in the 1000 free in 9:43.09.
In the 200 free, Calderoni was fifth in 1:53.36 and Cronin was seventh in 1:54.74. Freshman Madison Hardimon also earned a seventh-place finish in the 200 free (1:42.87) and freshman Cara Egan finished sixth in the 100 breast, touching in 1:07.43.
In the first relay event of the night, Mckenna, Egan, Richter and Cronin combined for a fifth-place finish in 1:48.17, and in diving events, junior Elle Mixa was fourth with a score of 212.13.
As a team, the women enter the final day of competition in third place with a score of 272. Marist leads the competition with 551 points and Rider is second at 372. On the men's side, the Greyhounds are fifth with 279 points, trailing Rider (384), Saint Peters (259.5), Marist (358.5) and Canisius (354.5), respectively.
Loyola will return to the pool on Saturday for the final day of competition. Preliminary events are scheduled for 10 a.m., with the finals scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. You can watch live at MAAC.TV or follow live results here.
