Loyola Men Take The Lead After Day One Of The MAAC Championships

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's team is currently in the lead after Day One of the 2009 MAAC Championships at the Mangione Aquatic Center with a total of 229 points. The women are positioned in second place with 205 points, right behind Rider University.

The Greyhound women started the finals session of Day One with a second place spot in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The team of Megan Royer, Caitlin Cassidy, Mary Henkels and Lauren Mari clocked in at 1:35.81.

Victoria Kamauff took third in the 500 Free at 5:02.42 and Megan Shovlin followed in fourth place at 5:03.75.

The men's team kicked things off with a second place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay at 1:21.86 with Brad Reeser, Ozzy Torres, Sam McQuaid and E.J. Verrico completing the group.

McQuaid also had an individual second place finish in the 200 IM, tapping in at 1:51.97.

Jacob Drannan became Loyola's first 2009 MAAC Champion, winning the 500 Freestyle in 4:31.15 to set a new conference record. Patrick Mukri and Jonathan Wertz took the number three and four spots in the same event.

 

 

The men's team finished strong with a victory in the 400 Medley Relay, setting a new MAAC record at 3:17.85. The foursome included McQuaid, Matthew Fralinger, Torres and Reeser.

Day Two of the MAAC Championships begins with the 200 Medley Relay preliminaries at 9:30 a.m. Friday's finals are scheduled to commence at 5:30 p.m. Follow all the action with Loyola's Live Results.
