Four Seniors Win Events Against La Salle On Senior Day

BALTIMORE - Senior Patrick Mukri and junior Brennan Morris each won three individual events and one relay in the Greyhounds' final home swimming and diving meet of the season against La Salle Friday night. In addition, four seniors - Tony Florida, Mary Henkels, Courtney Trivino and Mukri - each claimed titles in their final home meet at the Mangione Aquatic Center.
Mukri won the 100-yard backstroke (52.77), 200-yard backstroke (1:55.61) and the 200-yard IM (1:59.15), while Morris extended his undefeated individual event win streak to 23-straight victories, touching first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.25), 500-yard freestyle (4:36.00) and 1000-yard freestyle (9:31.76).
The duo also teamed with senior Tony Florida and junior Jeffrey Rowe to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:11.98.
Junior Ryan Shovlin rounded out the individual winners on the men's side, capturing the 200-yard butterfly title in 1:56.47.
On the women's side, senior Courtney Trivino and sophomore Caitlin Cronin each earned a pair of victories, while senior Mary Henkels won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:11.51. Trivino led all competitors in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.07) and the 200-yard IM (2:13.23), while Cronin touched first in the 100-yard freestyle in 52.93 and the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.34. Cronin also earned a runner-up finish in the 50-yard freestyle (24.55).
In addition to finishing second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.93, Henkels teamed with Cronin, freshman Maya Olivieri and sophomore Courtney Chenet to win the 200-yard medley relay with a combined time of 1:50.89.
Loyola also received a pair of runner-up finishes from Rowe, as he took second in the 100-yard butterfly in 53.86 and the 100-yard breaststroke 1:00.04, in addition to senior Meghan Barry - who finished second in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:12.14 - and sophomore Erin Shea. Shea finished the 200-yard IM in 2:16.69.
In diving events, sophomore Michael Brown earned a pair of runner-up finishes, earning a score of 257.77 in 1-meter diving and a score of 239.10 in 3-meter diving.
Third-place finishers included sophomore Sam Berizzi, freshman Erin Calderoni, sophomore Connor Downey, sophomore Ben Duva, senior Lauren Mari, freshman Melissa Martinez, senior Scott Miller, Florida and Rowe.
In the 1000-yard freestyle, Berizzi (10:51.55) and Duva (9:51.07) each took third, while Duva also finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:14.85.
In the 50-yard free, Mari took third on the women's side in 24.81 and Rowe was third in the men's race, touching in 21.92.
Calderoni earned a pair of third-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.98) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:13.39), while Martinez was third in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.60, Downey was third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.50, Florida was third in the 100-yard freestyle (48.30) and Miller was third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.58).
La Salle won a close men's competition by a score of 151-145, while the Explorers also won the women's title, 174-126.
The meet marked the final home meet for Loyola's senior class of Melissa Addonizio, Meghan Barry, Jessica Brown, Michael DiNapoli, Michaela Dumm, Marc Fink, Tony Florida, Mary Henkels, Lauren Mari, Carissa McStay, Scott Miller, Patrick Mukri. Nicole Romano, Courtney Trivino and Caitlin Winkler.
The Greyhounds will return to action next weekend in their final regular season competition at Mount Saint Mary's. Competition is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 11 a.m.
