BALTIMORE - Seven Greyhounds won individual events and two relay teams were victorious to lead the Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving teams against in-state rival UMBC in their final home meet on Saturday at Mangione Pool at the Fitness and Aquatics Center.

Junior Caitlin Cronin won both the 100 butterfly (1:01.00) and 200 freestyle (1:55.49), while also finishing second in the 100 free (53.48). Cronin led the Greyhounds to a sweep of the 100 butterfly, as senior Abby Wiese touched second in 1:01.98 and sophomore Brianna Keelan was third in 1:03.89.

Loyola also swept the men’s and women’s 400 IM. Junior Courtney Chenet won the women’s title in 4:40.69 and was followed by freshman Arianna Dean (4:51.73) and freshman Allie Krasnov (4:56.45). On the men’s side, junior Bryan Bedacht was victorious in 4:16.30, while freshman Danny Sullivan was the runner-up in 4:16.30 and freshman Cole Christy was third in 4:37.75.

Sullivan also earned a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke, touching in 2:18.53.

In the 50 free, senior Jeffrey Rowe touched first in 21.43, while senior Brennan Morris won the 1000 free in 9:28.50.

In diving events, junior Elle Mixa swept the 1-meter (216.44) and 3-meter (260.39) competitions. On the men’s side, junior Michael Brown won the 3-meter competition with a score of 267.15.


 

 

The Greyhounds’ 400 free relay of sophomore Erin Calderoni, Keelan, freshman Megan Brady and junior Erin Shea touched first in 3:44.09. The men’s squad of freshman Timmy Barry, freshman Madison Hardimon, freshman Nigel Hunter and senior Ryan Shea won in 3:18.04.

Loyola also had runner-up finishes from Barry (100 back, 53.61), freshman Kaitlin Richter (200 fly, 2:11.10), Brown (1-meter diving, 250.72), Shea (200 back, 1:57.40) and Calderoni (500 free, 5:17.23). In the 200 breaststroke, junior Jacob Norfolk was third in 2:18.66, while freshman Erika Winkler was third in the 1000 free (11:02. 64), sophomore Rachel Zucco was third in the 100 breast (1:10.27) and freshman Cara Egan was third in the 200 breast (2:31.98).

As a team, the Greyhounds fell to UMBC on the men’s side, 181-108, and the women’s side, 165-116.

Loyola will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 23, when it heads to La Salle for a 2 p.m., meet.
