Crew Teams Set To Row For Humanity All-Day Thursday
Jan. 26, 2010
Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola rowing teams will participate in the 2010 Row For Humanity event on Thursday, Jan. 28 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in McGuire Hall. The all-day event is a fundraiser that benefits both Habitat For Humanity and the Rowing program. The rowing teams invite the student-body and campus community to get involved through donations, or preferably, through rowing. Participants also will be welcomed the day of event.
The challenge is for the team to row 12 hours on ergometers (indoor rowing machines). Each rower is responsible for a minimum 1 hour on the machines, but non-team members are welcome to split up the hour by bringing others along. Keeping track of how far each participant rows using the machine's computers, Row for Humanity is planning to row for over one million meters.
Row for Humanity is a national event that includes Kansas State, Tulsa, Bucknell, Boston University, George Washington, Mary Washington, Northeastern and Michigan. The event makes the largest one-time donation that many Habitat for Humanity campus chapters receive annually.
In 2009, Row for Humanity donated over $30,000 to Habitat for Humanity clubs across the nation. By providing precious seed money, participants help build homes for their communities while also sharing in the unique sport of rowing. Last year, the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity received $3,000.00 from the event.
To donate money, you can sponsor a Loyola rower by writing a check to "Loyola Rowing," put `RFH' in the memo line and mailing it to Loyola Athletics-Rowing at 4501 North Charles Street, Baltimore, Md., 21210. Donations will also be accepted, including Evergreen card, and cash at the RFH Boulder Garden Table from Tuesday, January 26-28 and at the event on Thursday. To donate money to the cause, while also getting a productive workout, you can head to McGuire Hall on Thursday and participate.
