Cambridge, Mass. - Loyola's men's collegiate eight boat rowed a three-mile time of 12:35.86 to finish in 36th place and within 10 percent of the winner's time in an extremely competitive field at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday afternoon.

The Greyhounds rowed very well and maintained a high tempo throughout the Charles River course, which runs between Boston and Cambridge, en route to defeating Holy Cross, Johns Hopkins, Boston College, UConn, the University of Minnesota, Bucknell, and the University of Rhode Island.

Loyola beat nine teams in the 45-team field, which saw the top-20 finishing teams cross the line within 35 seconds of each other. Trinity College won the race with a time of 11:29.38.

"The team rowed pretty well today," said Loyola Director of Rowing Al Ramirez. "I was glad to see them get off to a strong start and maintain a steady rhythm, but making some improvements in the drive technique will bring even greater success over the next couple of weeks."

Harvard, Saint Joseph's, Michigan, Hobart, Mercyhurst, Minerva Rowing Club of the Netherlands, and Queens University and Brock University from Canada were some of the other boats in this star-studded field.
