BOSTON - The Loyola University Maryland rowing team opened its 2017-2018 schedule Saturday as the Women’s Varsity Four boat raced at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta.

The Greyhounds finished 35th out of 53 entries in the Women’s Club Fours race, crossing the finish in 20:32.62. Loyola’s entry was 22nd amongst the race’s collegiate entries.

Natasha Murray competed in the stroke seat for Loyola, while Janae Banner and Katherine Fletcher were in the three and two seats, respectively. Mia Gioia rowed in the bow, and Keenan Gibbons was the boat’s coxswain.

Loyola’s entry came out of the gate strong before slowing momentarily under the Weeks Bridge. The crew fought through the slowdown and passed four boats between there and the finish line.

“The water was flat, and the times were fast; two course records fell today, including in our event,” said Head Coach Megan Patrick. “The women had a solid performance today, keeping the power on and a strong rhythm for the majority of the course. This was a good starting place and something we can build on this season.

The Greyhounds will be back on the water next weekend when they compete in the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia on Saturday, October 28.
